This very day last year, I got married to my childhood sweetheart of 11 years and I’ve since gained at least 3kg after that. Blissfully married they say~ Just happy to be loved and pampered even more after upgrading to the “Mrs” status. On hindsight, I’m also glad that we’ve chosen to take things one step at a time, unlike my usual impulsive self.. One milestone at a time also meant that we were able to handle our finances with much lesser stress. I’ve always applaud couples who can have wedding + house + a baby at a go, I would have been so overwhelmed with stress, I doubt I can even relish in the moment should that happen to me. Before we move on to #Operationkitties Part 2 (aka our house), let’s reminisce on some unglam behind-the-scenes and special highlights that happened last year!
My morning started at 9am with these two very important ladies dolling me up!
Celia improvising from my previous hairdo so that I can fit my crown later on. Despite the massive amount of hair spray and backcomb, it was super easy to wash off. Didn’t even need conditioner to undo the damage. Like I say, she’s the only one I trust my hair with haha.
Oh and love how my hair was different shades of ash, looks more textured and less flat ❤️
Makeup by Marie that lasted the entire day~ And that marks the end of my peaceful morning. Samuel Goh came by not long after, even though he was only suppose to arrive at 10am, followed by my bridesmaid Celine and Kymm! 🙆🏼🙆🏼
I sent my two girls down to give E’an from Cotton & Sage my fake petals I bought at Taobao (my hotel doesn’t allow real petals on the carpet or to be thrown) and helped give me a sneak peek of whats going on!
For my wedding, the concept is simple: I wanted it to scream “paperkitties”. One look, it will remind the guests on how I always visualize my IGs to be like: white, classy with loads of fresh cuts. Which was why I scraped away with the usual hipster wedding layouts and invested in florals.
Cotton & Sage was my official florist for this luncheon and she was so professional. All I had to do was tell her the color scheme, how I would like it to look like and I basically left everything in her hands. I tend to consult her when I was stressing on what needs to be add on and basically just left everything in her hands. I’m so glad I did for it made my life so much easier, I didn’t fuss much about the deco even on the AD.
More pics of the table set up stolen from my sushi train girls who clearly made themselves very very comfortable… you’ll see later on 😂
My gorgeous bouquet also from Cotton & Sage! Totally fit the entire theme hor..
Since it was peony season, I meekly asked if it’s possibly to have them too. And she found them, in white 😍
Here comes the dessert table that was way more well received that I would have expected! By the time I came down to greet the guests in my kebaya, they were almost gone 😱
The Delights Heaven is another vendor that I’m glad to have completely relied on! I first know about this sister duo because one of them is from Celevenus (the other graduated from Le Cordon Bleu) and fell in love with their earl grey panna cotta when I tried it at their store opening!
Since then, I knew I wanted them to set up my dessert table. I’m very particular about pastries due to my lack of sweet tooth. But they were always on point..
Dainty rose and earl grey chocolate macarons from the macaron tower ❤️❤️ I love tea-infused desserts, which explains the unusual choices!
Chocolate dome with lavender bits ❤️
And my girls sure enjoyed themselves.. Lol. At one point dad was going “don’t eat so many, the mains are awesome” and Joyce was secretly thinking “what makes you think I can’t finish them”… She proceeded to have 6 bread rolls before mains were served 😂😂😂
Everyone’s favorite for their igs: cake pops!
Even though none of my vendors have met each other, only having a gist of what my color scheme and theme is… I love how they blended with each other so beautifully 😍 With The Delights Heaven, I only managed to meet them up one month before the big day. Impressed that they still manage to get it done ’til I kept hearing compliments~ And these sweethearts kept a separate box just for me to consume after the wedding 😋
While the crowd was starting to stream in, it was also getting very chaotic in my suite. Our families have arrived, the phone and doorbells won’t stop ringing… I was lucky my two “new” brothers were very helpful and 自动 so I didn’t have to scramble all around while trying to get myself ready.
Here’s my MIL helping me with the Kerongsang. Top is from Rumah Bebe, mermaid skirt and shoes from Rumah Kim Choo (side by side). Spot my Choo Yilin jade bangle!
Another one with the mommies after our mini tea ceremony. 11 years, and I finally call my FIL “爸”, he grumbles 😂
Apparently, my dad told my FIL that he knew Akira and I were dating since high school. But this supposedly strict man (whom mom said only allows me to date at 21) turned a blind eye and didn’t even tell my mom. I’m amazed how observant and controlled he is.. My mom and I would have blabbered our mouths to the whole world.
And it was time to mingle with the guests! I feared there wasn’t much time but @hokagekira insisted that I go down just for a short while like I had initially planned, so I did.. And was mostly stuck at the photobooth 😂😂😂
With my cousins waiting for them to adjust to our group size. Normally for fixed photobooths, it’s like one lens fit all.. But with PrintForFun, they just zoom in and out accordingly.. We just stand there and adjust a tiny bit! Instead of the usual 2 hours slot, I deliberately booked an extra hour so that everyone can have more fun! And boy did they abuse it 😂
PrintForFun was also very efficient in sending us the link to all the soft copies the day after our wedding: http://www.printforfun.sg/EventsGallery/Akira-Alene. Happy stalking!
My FIL being the #1 culprit in really printing for fun, followed closely by Valene, Nadia, Vivian and Deborah. 😂 Akira even spotted out event/banquet coordinator fooling around too, lol! We were most impressed with the quality and printing speed of our photobooth, less than a minute and photos for even up to 10 pax were all printed out. So much better than the ones I’ve been to where it takes ages until I actually gave up waiting.
Before I know it, the show’s about to begin! I do know that I can be very demanding at times in getting things my way, but I was nonetheless very thankful to most of my guests for being on time and adhering to the dress code 😊 Not a single pair of denims/tshirt/sandals in sight, even my cousins who only wear black changed their outfit to something slightly “colourful” 🙆🏼
I reckon the dress code was my only bridezilla moment cuz I was so afraid on the one thing I can’t control, and that’s what people choose to wear. But to those who really bothered to dress up and suit up elegantly, you know who you are, thank you. I was admiring at how beautiful you all are even though I was all over the place and didn’t had time to give my compliments 😊😘
One of the perks of being in the beauty blogging world is the many talented people I met along the one like my mua, hair stylists etc.. Then comes my #bbgirls! If not for Vinna, I doubt it’d been possible that I would have this crown fitted at my head the entire day!
Many will find wearing a tiara or crown super cheesy and outdated.. But well that’s because we don’t know where to look for!
If not for Z Wedding, I wouldn’t even know such a magnificent piece exist and am so thankful that these rare jewel was beautifully rested on my head the entire day. Heard so much compliments from my guests! Even my MUA and hair stylist who initially felt that crowns are a nono changed their minds the moment they saw it 😍
If I’m allowed to be so unabashed to show you where my #ootd was inspired from.. It was from VB’s wedding back when I was a teenager! Spot the similarity?
First march in from another angle! It was quite annoying cuz I knew I had no problem walking around in my gowns, I’ve practiced so many times at Z Wedding (not wanting to be one of those awkward turtle brides) but Akira kept stepping on them!
Lesson learnt: practice with your groom too!
And the girls who once again had so much fun~
It was another bridezilla moment the night before with them cuz I wanted to see what they were wearing.. And had to strike Joyce choices out as it looked like she was going clubbing! 😂😂 Gave her loads of options from my wardrobe which they thankfully also helped cleared my bag of clothes, that I have been meaning to sell, by bringing back home!
We started mingling once we were done with our appetizers. Well, that’s me just being unglam and drama mama after Akira said something to annoy me 😂 This was the very reason why I wanted an intimate wedding all aong: to spend time mingling and having fun with our guests. Every single headcount was carefully handpicked by us, where we even go by the rule of eliminating anyone we haven’t spoken to for more than a year.
I have been to so many weddings where I only get to meet the couple for a mere 1 minute or less. The lack of intimacy replaced by stuffing ourselves with food to make the angbao money worth is just so distasteful and sad, I hardly remembered anything afterwhich. Well except for the food, of course. So I tried changing that, by always spending time talking to our guests whenever possible. And it easy cuz the headcount was less than 98 pax! And because it was so small and well picked, I’m thankful to those who couldn’t make it at the last minute to still be so thoughtful (cuz it’s too late to cancel with the hotel) and for the rest to respect my wishes of not bringing their kids along. Yay!
Our 3 course Western menu where the mains were either sea bass or angus beef tenderloin. Very typical reaction of my guests upon knowing it’s a 3 course luncheon was: “Huh, what if I am not full?”
A lot of locals have the misconception that just because it’s not your usual 8 course chinese banquet, it will not be worth their moolahs and they might not be full. But how often do you finish all 8 course? Don’t you usually choose 3 course meals when you’re in restaurants? Are you still hungry after? Like my wedding coordinator said, the lack of quantity is replaced by quality. That’s how I work as well in my social media. So why not? As expected, most of my guests loved the lobster tartar and their choice of mains.. And were too full for desserts! I also noticed that they sure helped themselves to the wines and moscato as per my recommendation, they were yummy!
Both our march in songs were played by Akira’s second brother 🙆🏼 Behind every chillax bride is a very supportive crew! I’m so blessed that both brothers are extremely helpful and 自动 during the entire day, making my wedding such a breeze when the door bell and phone won’t stop ringing.
Anyways for our first march in, Akio played Canon in D. For the second march in, he played Balamb Garden from Final Fantasy VIII. There was panic in the house when Akira and his youngest bro so confidently thought we agreed on this when I said I wanted Zanarkand instead 😒 Both boys then tried to convince me with logic saying that in the Final Fantasy game, Balamb Garden was of a new beginning where the characters were starting a new year in school while the latter was of someone dying. -.- can’t fight a sound explanation eh?
A lot of my guests complained that we walked way too fast! Haha. I’m so sorry, it didn’t felt like we were 😣 I know a lot of brides like to buy new shoes for their big day but I choose to wear my most seasoned 5″ nude heels that you always see in my ootds. It makes walking around so comfortably and thus helped me greatly in standing for 4 hours straight.
After the first march in, I choose to hold hands with him on our second so that he can walk further away from me without stepping on my gown when we marched in 😋 You can’t tell but Aldora from Z Wedding choose a maroon suit for Akira to match my gown. So korean looking my oppa! Hahahaha. She also suggested pocket chiefs to make him look more suave.. the little details that counts ❤️
Even tho I’m not a fan of pink gowns for wedding, I really love this mermaid gown!! The cut, the weaving design, the tail.. I felt like a mermaid when I tried it on! Actually it’s not just pink, but a beautiful mix of pastel pink, purple and blue.. Making this dress very dreamy and perfect for my theme and my 2nd march in song.
Tbh, I was quite worried about this dress initially as it looks better IRL than in photos. Even Joey from Z Wedding got quite concerned when she saw my preview pics so I was very touched to have her helping me with alternatives. We ultimately agreed that the crown will help lengthen my short torso so that I look more proportionate on the overall… tiny tricks to help cheat my flaws a little.
Well the photos are great evidence right?! Thank you so much Joey for always ensuring I look my very best with all your tips and advices! 🙆🏼 This was the biggest difference I noticed between Z Wedding and my JB’s bridal studio. The former makes sure all your needs are catered to and always ensure you look your very best (even if you are a paying bride, you still represent their brand hor). The latter gives no input, that’s why some of their brides look like cupcakes – as commented by my mom 😅
And this is my girl squad! Work hard, play hard, and even after being all over APAC for so long, nothing changed. My best wedding present from you girls were to have the whole gang present on my big day❤️
This marks the start of our non-stop photo taking! From table to table, we ended up at the aisle. And instead of shaking our guests hands goodbye, we took photos at the photobooth 😂 So chaotic but so fun!!
Love ya’ll! And love my gown! Haha
These two sweethearts were heaven sent. When both our families were still in our suite chatting their lives away, and me being too exhausted.. These two were actually packing up every single thing on the second floor for me. It was so heartening and a huge relief for me, I couldn’t be more thankful!
I’m glad to have move forward with my wedding plans regardless to what our parents have to say, a huge credit of course have to go to my very accommodating husband who allowed that to happen too. Looking back, we certainly enjoyed ourselves heaps and often found ourselves looking back with such fond memories. Do pardon the not so perfect quality as they were all received from our dear friends and relatives, which was where all the fun happened right? For a proper breakdown of our wedding, you can pop over to my #Operationkitties tab for a good read and hopefully it’ll help you with your bridal journey too x
